Our U11's, 12's & 13's went down to Pontins, Brean Sands this weekend (27.6.09) and a fantastic weekend was had by all!
Saturday was a scorcher and all three teams played outstanding netball and qualified for the Cup tournament on Sunday.
The U11's first game of the day was against Flames, who they had previously lost to the day before. The girls were determined that this was not going to happen again and went on court full of confidence, beating them 8 - 2
The rest of the day for our U11's was the same, great all round court play which resulted in them comfortably qualifying for the semi finals.
The semi final was against Oldham and at first looked like it was going to be a comfortable game as we went three goals ahead. However Oldham dug deep and pulled back to make it a very close fought match. Fortunately, our girls managed to stay calm and took the match 4 - 3
The final was against Turnford and after losing to them by two goals at their own tournament, the girls were looking for revenge.
With end to end netball, the teams could not be separated and as the game drew to a close it was 6 - 6. In the dying seconds Victoria Austin was awarded a penalty shot and calmly put the ball in the net, winning the game 7 - 6
Well done girls, you played some fantastic netball.
The U12's also did extremely well against some well established teams. The girls only lost one game during Sundays group stage and had to nervously wait to see if they had qualified for the semi finals. Fortunately they did qualify and drew a tall Eagles side.
Our girls fought hard and was only one goal behind at half time but a couple of errors on our part was Eagles gain and they won the match 8 - 3.
Turnford went on to win the final against Eagles
Our U12's are a fairly new team and have already shown a vast improvement in their game and should be very proud of their performance, well done girls.
The U13's were unbeaten all weekend and had played some superb netball. Due to a large number of entries at this age, they had to play a quarterfinal round and drew Poole.
Poole had recently played up at U14's in the recent National Finals and were a very good team. However, even after being easily beaten by them earlier on in the year, our girls went on court determined to do better.
The game was end to end netball and at the end of the first half, we took a one goal lead. The second half started off in the same way as the first but after one small error, our girls were punished and Poole took the lead. Poole eventually won the match by three goals but knew that they had been in a good close match.
Poole went on to win the tournament after beating Turnford in the final.
The improvement in our U13's squad is a credit to the girls themselves and are certainly ones to watch out for in the forthcoming National qualifications.
Well done girls!
